Ubud is located in the center of beautiful Bali island surrounded by emerald rice fields and picturesque mountains. This beautiful town is widely known as the cultural capital of Bali: here you will find multiple art galleries, museums and  temples. Ubud is also one of the world’s most known spiritual centers. The name of the town comes from Upad (Balinese) which means “medicine”. Here you will find healers, both local and coming from abroad, who work with herbal treatments and energy healing. This is why Ubud attracts tourists interested in healthy eating (vegetarian, vegan, raw), spiritual practices and  yoga.

Bali Monkey forest is one of the most popular attractions to visit in Ubud. Located walking distance from the center , this huge park is home to funny monkeys of all ages who are obviously very comfortable in their natural habitat. These funny  animals are used to people and they will not pay attention to you as you walk by. However, they may be interested in your belongings - hide your sunglasses, jewelry or food.

Puri Saren Royal Palace, Ubud
Ubud Royal palace and its temple Puri Saren Agung are located in the heart of Ubud. This is the official royal residence and the royal family still lives there. This beautiful architectural ensemble was mostly built in 1917 after the earthquake and decorated by noted local artists . There is no fee to enter Ubud Palace despite the fact that it is one of the top Ubud tourist attractions. If you are planning to visit the Hindu temple inside you need to follow the dress code: a sarong and a top that covers your shoulders & mid-riffs. 5.

Ubud central market
This is the best place to shop for souvenirs in Bali. The market, as the name implies, is located in the center of Ubud, just next to the Royal Palace. In the morning, until 9 am, this is a traditional food market. Here you will find fresh fruit, vegetables, local herbal drink jamu, traditional sweets, fruit chips and local crackers called “krupuk”. The price is normally 30% lower than in a supermarket. After 9 a.m. it turns into an art market with lovely souvenirs, handbags, kitchenware, paintings and much more. Here you can also buy traditional asian clothes. When going to Ubud market, remember to bargain - the original price is never final unless it’s written.

Saraswati temple or Ubud Water palace
Located in the  Ubud center this temple is dedicated to the Hindu goddess of wisdom and art called Dewi Saraswati. No wonder this is one of the most beautiful temples in Bali. Admire creative carvings inside and outside the temple accompanied by stunning fountains lushing to create a peaceful pond covered with lotus blossoms. There are also dance performances held here in the evening when the temple is illuminated and looks even more magical than in the day time.

7.

Blanco museum
Ubud sightseeing is not complete without visiting at least one museum.I recommend the former home and studio of Don Antonio Blanco. Before entering the museum don’t miss the view: it is located on a hill overlooking colorful rice paddies in Campuhan. Inside you will find remarkable artworks: paintings, collages and even lithographs. You can take a tour around the artist’s home and see the studio, where he used to work. The museum is surrounded with a beautiful garden, where you can take a walk and enjoy the shade.

Watch a traditional performance
Another must do in Ubud , the cultural capital of Bali, is seeing a traditional performance. Watching a Kecak fire dance in a temple is a memorable experience, but you can also find local youths practicing their gamelan in the town hall. You can catch one of these performances anywhere from the Royal Palace to restaurants and public places. This is one of the best night activities in Ubud.

Campuhan ridge walk
If you are looking where to see the sunset in Ubud, Champuhan is your #1 choice. This 2 kilometre long, well maintained trek, overlooking the jungle, the river and the rice fields is one of the most popular outdoor activities in Ubud. Unlike many natural sights in Bali, Campuhan walk is totally free. At the end of the walk, stop at Karsa kafe for a refreshing drink and a stunning view.
Campuhan is tricky to find and your phone map may not very helpful: both Google and Apple maps took me to the wrong place when I was looking for it. Here are detailed directions on how to find Campuhan walk.

Rice terraces, Ubud
Ubud is a crowded town and things can get really intense, so many visitors are looking for a peaceful environment going outside, for example to Tegalalang terraces, waterfalls or other major attractions near Ubud. However, only savvy Bali travelers know to take a walk in the rice fields without leaving the center of Ubud - a true gem hidden behind tourist restaurants and souvenir shops. If you are looking for offbeat things to do in Ubud, this is the path for you. Finding this walk is tricky: on the main street pass the Saraswati temple heading towards Campuhan and look for a small sign Subak Juwuk Manis (Magical Rice Field In Ubud). If you can’t see the sign (it is really small and easy to miss), just type Sweet Orange in your phone map - it will provide you with directions.
